KUTZTOWN, PA ~ It was a family affair Wednesday night at The Fairgrounds at Kutztown Speedway. Brothers Alex and Brenden Bright completed a one-two sweep of the 600cc Micro-Sprint division's 20-lap feature, placing first and second, respectively. By virtue of a victory in the night's first heat, Alex, 17, of Collegeville, Pa., started from the pole and grabbed the early lead. Brenden, 16, rolling off third, moved the No. 88 to second on the opening lap. The race's final caution flew on lap nine. As a result, the leaders reached lapped traffic late in the 11-lap green-flag stretch. While the backmarkers allowed Brenden to close on Alex's No. 86, he wasn't able to complete the pass on his older sibling. Goldie Meitzler Memorial winner Tom Kohler of Leesport, Pa., advanced from eighth to place third, ahead of Mooresville, N.C.'s Todd Carmichael, driving a No. 77 owned by Bill Berry. Joe Kay completed the front five. Heat winners for the 600cc Micro-Sprints were Alex Bright, Brock Bilger and Brenden Bright. Keith McIntyre Jr. annexed the consolation. Versatile Ryan Smith of Kunkletown, Pa., invaded Kutztown and powered to a green-to-checkered victory in the 20-lap 270cc Micro-Sprint feature. Driving the Shelly Motocross and Micro-Sprint Engines No. 44B, pole starter Smith was never seriously challenged in a rugged event that featured three red flags. Terry Schaeffer of Reading, Pa., reversed his early-season poor luck at Kutztown. The owner of RTS Chassis was a solid second. Eddie Wagner, Scott Fick and 20th-starter Sean Stolz completed the front five. Smith, Jay Horvath and Schaeffer won the 270cc heats, with Stolz and Blaine Schlosser split the consolations. Jim Housworth of Riegelsville, Pa., launched off the outside pole and led the entire 20-lap Slingshot feature fending off Nate Christman, then Rob Marino to record the victory. Marino, Christman, Tiffany Wambold and Michael Glass, who started 15th, completed the front five. Christman, Housworth and Marino were heat victors. Bill Weaver topped the consolation. Racing resumes on Wed., June 4 with Twin 15s for the 270cc Micro-Sprints sponsored by RTS Chassis, plus 600cc Micro-Sprints and Slingshots. Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. For more information, contact Kerry Meitzler by phone at: (610)-683-8234, via e-mail: racektown@aol.com or on the web: www.kutztownfairspeedway.com.
