RYAN SMITH GARNERS USAC FORD FOCUS WIN AT ADIRONDACK By Billy Gibson- AIS Media Director
New Bremen, NY – In their lone visit of 2006 to the Adirondack International Speedway the Northeast USAC Ford Focus Series in support from Wirtgen and CT Trailers as well as Trims Supply would roll off their sixth show of the year. The event would be fifteen cars strong for the budding regional touring series.
Sean Carman would take the early lead in the 30-lap event before Ryan Smith would move to the front and contend for the lead along with Jeff Abold of Pennellville making it an early three-car battle for the point. Carman was not about to relinquish his position so easily, as he would battle with Smith for several laps. The two would work it side by side in and out of the corners, before Smith hopped to the outside of turn two and motored by Carman to take the lead on lap 18. But on the move was hometown boy, Watertown, NY’s own Mike Sboro. Sboro would wage a late race charge and look to shake things up amongst the front two. He would reel in Carman and Smith but be unable to get by in the closing laps. Sboro would have nothing for the high flying Ryan Smith and Carman as the two would come home first and second. Sboro would be next in line, coming home third, with Abold and Nick Wean rounding out the top-five.
It would be Smiths second win of the season amongst the series. With the victory, Smith now has moved into the point lead with just five shows remaining. After finishing fifth in the point standings last year, Smith looks to be on a very improving run in 2006.
Next event for the series will take place at the Chemung Speedrome located in Chemung, NY. The 3/8ths asphalt mile will offer 25-laps of action as Nick Wean of Milford, NJ will return, looking to defend his honor after winning the event last year with his #78 machine.
